Motherboard and Memory matchup?

By ngen255 ·
hey, if i get a new motherboard (say a Biostar P4VTB VIA PT800 Socket 478), would it be possible for me to use my old 128 and 256 PC100/133 SDRAM? or would i have to buy new PC3200 DDR RAM?

All motherboards have their own compatibily toward using memories. It is written on the instruction booklet. Know that first before fitting in memory. Biostar P4VTB is a new motherboard, you cannot fit your old memory. Use what is recommended.

Your motherboard ONLY supports DDR RAM.

You CANNOT use your SDRAM on this motherboard.
Attempting to install your SDRAM DIMMs WILL damage the DDR DIMM sockets.

As to the speed required, that depends on the CPU you plan to install.
You need memory fast enough to support the Front Side Buss speed of the CPU.

As a side note: I recommend against installing more than 384 MB of RAM if you plan to install Windows 98 or Me on this PC.
