motherboard or cpu faulty?

By jon_w31 ·
Gigabyte GA 7ZX motherboard with Athlon 900.
I have the board set up on the bench. The cpu fan spins and the green light on the motherboard illuminates. The keyboard flashes once. I have no output to monitor. I have no post beep codes. Even if i remove all drives and memory i still get no beep codes! Other than substitution any sugestions on the most likely component to be failing. The motherboard or the CPU?

Check the power supply and the cable connections,no beep may suggest that it is a power supply problem, listen for pitch tone from the power supply

hi there,

OK from your problem description, i believe the fault is with your display adapter. Try changing your display adapter to another slot and if its still does not work, try using another display adapter.

Hope this will help.

All the best.
Get back to me if ou need more help.

I have already substituted memory, video card, drives, and power supply for known good units. All components are known good with the exception of the motherboard and CPU

I would have to go with the motherboard also,Before the machine can do anything else it has to run the bios which would then tell the machine that it has a processor, and other hardware such as the keyboard, right here you would get a beep stating that it tested the keyboard. I believe the reason you are not getting these is because its not getting that far in the process. How long have you had it, The dealer may be able to help you out here by sending it back for an exchange.

From my experience, its the CPU. Post codes require some sort of CPU to send something to the speaker...the board just won't do it on it's own.

It could be entirely the board also, but i beleive it'll also come down to the socket assembly. A bad board should be giving you all sorts of memory errors even if it did get past post.
