Motherboard Problem?

By emehlhaf ·
I have a PC with a Pentium Triton/P54C PCI Motherboard. It has a Pentium/Overdrive Processor(ZIF). When I boot the computer it does the POST and then it takes 20 to 30 minutes to start loading the operating system. Any sugestions as to why this is happening? I also can't seem to find a battery on this board either. It is manufactured by SOYO.

Motherboard Problem?

Part 1, try this experiment. Disconnect your
CD-rom completely, and try booting. If the 20-30 minute time lag goes away, you have a
bios incompatibility.

2 ways of solving this, put both on the same IDE chain, and find a flash update for your bios. ( probably not possible ), or replace the CD-rom with a true "plug and play" model.

As for the battery, if you can't find it, you don't have one. Is there a big rectangular chip on the board labeled "Dallas"?

If so, that is your ( replacement ) for the
battery. It's a clock chip that keeps time via a "trickle" charge from the power supply.

Any other suggestions out there. There must be someone who has had this happen before?

Twenty to thirty minutes?? You are very patient to discover this. Three minutes tops and then start removing hardware to isolate the hold-up.

Disconnect any "turbo switch" wires

Reset BIOS to defaults

Re-order your statup options by by choosing to boot "C only", (if the machine is waiting for a network boot, then it may wait a long time)

Hope this helps to get that machine snappy again ...
