Mouse Inop in DOS

By Palladin ·
When I access the virtual DOS command in Windows 2000, the mouse kinda-sorta stops working. (I am using the DOS "edit" program as an example) I can see the pointer and when I click any of the mouse buttons it makes a small patch of the screen change colors but it doesn't activate the drop down menus. I can still activate the drop down menus via the "alt" key. I don't have any problems with the mouse under any of the other MS operating systems, just WIN_2K.

Open a window in command mode and then right-click the program window's title bar, and then select Properties. On the Options tab under Edit Options, UN-check QuickEdit Mode and Insert Mode and click OK. After this you will be asked whether or notyou want these changes to be applied to this current session or all future sessions -- your choice. Now you can use the mouse normally.
