MOuse will quit wirking

By gknicks71 ·
I have a microsoft USB mouse and a regular port mouse. Both of these no matter where they are plugged in will quit working after awhile on my computer. They just disapear and are no longer active. I need to reeboot my PC, and then they work again. at first I thought it was my USB, but then I plugged in the other mouse using the standard port, and it is the same thing.

What IRQ is your mouse operating on? Are there other resource intensive devices on that IRQ? Look at the memory addresses that are being used. This definitely sounds like a resource conflict.

Agree with the resource conflict. Right click on MY COMPUTER and select properties choose DEVICE MANAGER and click VIEW DEVICES BY TYPE and click the first icon COMPUTER in the window that shows whats in the system. In this window it will show the IRQ settings.

Does the computer respond to keystrokes? You may be perceiving what is a locked computer as a mouse problem.

Remove any installed drivers for the mouse and reboot see what happens with the win98 drivers.

Download and install motherboard drivers.

Another option would be to boot into safe mode and check for ghost drivers. Remove them, reboot and then reinstall and see if that helps out.
