I have a situation and I’m hoping some of you may be able to provide some guidance.
Using Win2K3E…
Server A is attached to a LUN that resides on a SAN via fibre channel. There is nothing “special” going on with this LUN – it is just being used for file storage and only has one partition on it.
Server B is being built to replace Server A. I want to move the LUN from Server A to Server B and maintain all of the data without having to do a file/copy or backup/restore.
I attempted this in test, and Server B doesn’t recognize any file system on the LUN (Server A was powered down at the time, both servers were NOT trying to read the LUN at the same time). I expect this is because Server B doesn’t know the disk signature on the LUN.
Does anyone know a way I can do this kind of cut-over successfully?
