Move Access db from Novell to NT?

By kdowling ·
Is there anything that needs to be considered before moving our company's Access, ACT and Control G databases from Novell to NT? If so, what needs to be done before the switchover?

Move Access db from Novell to NT?

by ComputerDude In reply to Move Access db from Novel ...

I assume the Novell server is just be acting as a file server for the databases, that no actual processing is occuring on the server. All that should be needed is to move the data and point the applications to the new path on the NT server. Of course make sure that nobody is using any databases when you do the switchover. I would copy the databases and then down the server so nobody connects to the original copy before you get a chance to reconfigure the Apps. By doing a copy you can always roll back to Novell if something goes really wrong.

Hope this helps,
Dave

Move Access db from Novell to NT?

I don't have experience with Control-G but I have moved Access and ACT databases several times without any problems (Novell to NT, NT to Novell and NT or Novell to Linux Samba Server).

However, I can't emphasize enough that access to the databases has to be denied to all users while the move is completed so the various copies of the database don't get out of sync. Twice, I've gotten wrapped around the axle when users found a way to access the old database after the copy had been made.

regards!
