Move iNetPub to different logical drive

By eppatat ·
My current web server points the iNetPub directory to a single drive. I need to migrate the entire iNetPub directory to a different drive, while keeping down-time to a minimum (i.e. less than 1 hour). Does anyone know how to perform this migration? A few more details...I don't have a second web server to migrate the webs to temporarily, this is a intranet web server and highly mission critical, there are several ASP pages as well as custom search parameter for indexing.

I would think that as long as you pages are not modifying any data files you could just copy the files, change starting directory, then stop and start the web.

This will not work. The webs will not function with a simple file copy and redirect of the IIS.

You can do this one of two ways, the method I would prefer is to migrate to a different virtual server. Create a virtual server with a simular name. Publish to the new server. Then stop the origional server, and rename the new one. This will allow you to leave intact the current inetpub.

To actually move it, you will have to reinstall IIS the instructions are detailed at www.iisadmin.com.

A second web server isn't available, see original post.
