Secondary or USB drive

If the original computer is dead and will not boot, your options for recovering settings are limited.

You can recover your files by installing the drive from the old system as either a second drive in the new system. (Make sure it does not become the boot drive.) Or install the drive in a USB drive adapter and access the drive using USB.

Windows should mount the drive as a second volume and you should be able to just drag and drop your personal files.

If you had a user password or encrypted folders, you will need to log onto the old drive to retrieve them.

For email and similar items, it would be better to open your email client on the new system and import the mail from the old drive.

If this is getting deeper than your skills on a PC, contact a local independent PC repair shop. They should be able to recover and move your files for you.
