moving command prompt tip

By buck_hannah ·
Earlier this year I encountered a tip that allowed me to put the command prompt above the start-up menue when the system booted. I have dutifully lost the reg key line for this handy tool. Would anyone know/remember this tip?

I'm not sure how to do this by editing the registry. I'm running ME, and I added the DOS Command Prompt to the Start Menu by:

Right-click in an empty area of the task bar.
Select Properties.
Select the Advanced tab.
Click the Add buton.
Typein Command.com.
Click next.
Select the root folder.
Click next.
Click Finish.

Hope this helps!

Adding it to the startup group on your start menu (as above) is easiest. If you want to add it to your registry, you need to go to HLM, SOFTWARE, Microsoft, Windows (or Windows NT if you have 2000), CurrentVersion, Run and add the command line of what you want to start (I.E. cmd.exe - NT/Win2K or command.com - Win9X)

You can import the registry value below if you save it to a .reg file.
DISCLAIMER!!!!!! - Don't try importing this without first backing up your registry!
For Win9X:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run]
"Command Prompt"="command.com"

For NT/W2K:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Run]
"Command Prompt"="cmd.exe"

This is the one I use and thank you so much. When things go hick it is nice to have the prompt for problem solving. Thanks again!
