Moving from Domain to Workgroup and back

By lmayeda ·
Our company will be moving to another site in increments. Currently approximately 40 PC's are connected to a Win2K server for business applications, a WinNT PDC for logon verification and an Exchange Server for mail. The first increment of 10 userswill be setup as a workgroup on a router/switch to share printers and a cable line for internet access. At some point in time I will need to move the servers to the new site and have the workgroup users rejoin the domain. The PCs are a mix of Win98, WinNT, and Win2K. Any suggestions as to problems I should anticipate?

Only problems you should encounter are permission problems. Users will no longer have domain creditials to offer their peers in the workgroup. Plan for the fact that there is no longer a central repository for accounts.

Users will now log on toindividual machines. Each machine is responsible for creating accounts and assigning permissions based on their Local Security Authority.
