    Moving users between AD forest

    I’m looking for some good tools out there to migrate users from one AD forest to another and keep the passwords intact. Either a direct migration, or an export from one, and import to another.

      ADMT v2, the version that comes with Windows Server 2003, can do the migration and retain the passwords if you are looking for a free product. We personally use Quest migrator to perform migrations and it works very well. NetIQ and Aelita also have good migration products.

      There is a method with windows 2000. You will first have to install the full administration package of windows 2000. In the package there is a command line program “movetree” that can be used to move users.
