moving Win XP hard disk to new computer BSOD need help!

by techloser . Updated 11 years, 10 months ago

I have a SATA HDD with WIndowsXP installed on it from 2008.

I just got a new motherboard and CPU, a Celeron with ASUS H61M-A motherboard.

I am trying to migrate the HDD over to no avail. I can’t start up with the HDD, I can’t start up with my WinXP installation disc, I can’t do a repair installation, when I start up using a Ubuntu v14.04 (I don’t know how to use Linux/Ubuntu, I’m just doing it because other people suggest I do), I can’t use Ubuntu to read the WindowsXP installation disc to repair the WindowsXP HDD.

I am at my wits’ end. I really want to keep my WIndowsXP system. I totally don’t know how to use Ubuntu.

I have my motherboard driver disc, and the readmes inside list a whole load of drivers and files. Do I have to copy each one individually to my WinXP HDD and hope it works?

My WIndowsXP installation disc has only Service Pack 2, which some people say is too old for recognizing SATA drives. But my WinXp is indeed installed on a SATA drive.
