Question

Locked

Moving XP

By rghoch ·
I am trying to update an AMD 1ghz computer to a RAID installation. I have two drives, the first, C has an old Windows ME installation and the second, /, has Windows XP SP2. They are set up as a dual boot arrangement, and it works just fine that way, however the / drive is not bootable by itself.

I added 2 160gb SATA drives in a RAID 1 setup, and I would like to move the XP installation to those drives. I can clone the / drive, but I can't figure out how to make it bootable.

Any suggestions?

Thanks

Missing boot files

by bart777 In reply to Moving XP

On teh C drive are a series of files that are required to make the dual boot work.

If you are trying to remove the old C drive and only have the XP drive you will need to get those files put onto the XP drive.

Easiest way is to go thru the repair console when you boot from the XP cd and run a FixMBR or Fixboot. That should put the required files where they need to be. The only problem may be the RAID drivers. If it still won't boot then you may want to try a repair installation. That should prompt you for the drivers.

Good luck
