Mozillia

By sheyanjing ·
Why is it I sometimes get info back from some sites that say my browser is Mozillia 4.0 when I have MSIE 6.0 installed? How do I fix this? I do not have Mozillia, I do a find files and always dlete anything that says mozillia and it keeps coming back. I have no idea where it came from or how it got on my PC. IE6 looks and acts normally but apparently it's telling everyone I have mozillia 4.0 as my browser!

Did you, or do you have Netscape 6.0 or newer installed?

Mozilla is the 'core' code of Netscape's browser.

The Mozilla 4.0 reference puzzles me.
The 'current' version of Mozilla is 1.3 Alpha.
The 'stable' releases are 1.X and 1.2.1

I suggest that you install and run 2 programs to check for hidden software.

Belarc Adviser www.belarc.com
This software will list nearly every item of hardware and software that is installed on your PC.

AdAware www.lavasoft.de
This program searches your PC for "Spy-Ware and Ad Ware that some programs and websites thoughtfully install for you.
Many of these programs collect information about your PC, and send the data home to help target the spam amil you receive.

Personally, I would consider giving Mozilla a try.
www.mozilla.org
It is in many respects a better browser than IE.
It is 1/2 the size to download
And, has a built-in pop-up ad stopper.

This is what part of a Yahoo msg that I recieved back from a request i made. Browser: Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows 98; .NET CLR
1.0.3705)
I already use adaware religiously and that Belarc did not show me anything concerning mozillaor netscape. I do not have problems with pop ups, I'm lucky if I get 2 or 3 at the most per day and I don't have any popup stopper installed. I thought about mozilla and looked into it but it doesn't play nice with a lot of the sites I visit so....Any other explanations/advice about this "Mozilla 4.0"? It does seem to be quite the mystery.

Mozilla is probably not anywhere on your computer. MSIE 6.0 is Mozilla 4.0 compatible. MSIE 5.5 is Mozilla 4.0 compatible. If you see Mozilla 4.0 compatible, then you are operating correctly.

If you do a search on the web for Mozilla 4.0, you will see all the "user agents" that are reported as being Mozilla 4.0 compatible. Websites use these counters, but they also get the agent info (in your case, MSIE 6.0).

Netscape browsers will show up as Mozilla 4.79 or Mozilla 5.0 (Netscape 5 and above), etc. Mozilla did start out as Netscape, but it's gone "open source" -- see www.mozilla.org for more info.
