MP3 Player Won't Install

By terryjeanwilloughby ·
My Sony Network Walkman MP3 Player I have to store music on from my computer, won't install on my computer when I plug it in and check the device driver a yellow mark is beside the driver and when I check the driver it say's "THE DRIVER FOR THIS DEVICE ARE NOT INSTALLED (CODE 2 also AN ERROR OCCUREED A SERVICE INSTALLATION SECTION IN THIS INF IS INVALID".
I contacted SOny but they said that something on my computer is stoping it from installing. I installed the software that came with the player to download music and that works fine I just can't get the music onto the MP3 player.

I'm running
Windows XP Professional
Version 2002
Service Pack 2
CPU 2.40 GHz
256 MB of Ram

Please Help

Terry

Well try this with the Sony CD in a CD/DVD drive go into the System Tools Right Click on the Sony Device and chose Update Driver. Then when the next window opens chose the Find Driver Automaticly and allow the system to run until it finishes.

If it comes up with an error message you then do have something loaded that is preventing the driver being installed and it will be a painful exercise working out what it is. But if you followed the installation directions properly and didn't have the MP3 Player plugged into the computer when the Hardware driver was installed 99 times out of 100 it will work. This most often happens when people don't follow the directions and install the driver with the player attached.

If you did that you'll need to uninstall all the Driver Software that came with the Device and then proceed to reinstall it without the device connected.

There are several things on the installation CD did you install the Driver? and not just the software?

If you still have that yellow mark beside the device in Device Manager what else have you got installed in the way of Hardware and Software as there has to be something conflicting with it and not allowing a Registry Key to be activated.

Have you tried System Mechanic to clean up the Registry? you can find a 30 day fully functioning trial copy here

http://www.iolo.com/downloads.cfm

Have you tried running a up to date Anti Virus Scanner over the computer if not you can get a free download here

http://free.grisoft.com/doc/2/lng/us/tpl/v5

And have you run some Spy Ware Scanners over the computer? If not you can get Ad aware from here

http://www.download.com/3000-2144-10045910.html?part=69274&subj=dlpage&tag=button

and Spy-bot Search & Destroy from here

If nothing works then post back with the actually hardware you are using and that means every plug in Card and all installed software.

I take it that you have checked that the USB ports are actually working right?

is it usb ? if so try to plug something else into that same port and see if it works. if it does work try downloading the updated driver from sony. if the usb does not work, check to see if it is disabled in cmos.
