mprexe error

By kashmeir63 ·
Hi ,
I have a windows 98 laptop computer.
When I try to bootup --right after the logon screen I get the following error message: MPREXE
this program has performed an illegal operation and will be shut down.
And the computer freezes w/this on the screen.
I've also tried it w/safe mode w/the same results.
I also tried restoring previous registry's but still the same results. I could get to the dos prompt but not sure what to do from there.Any help would be appreciated..

Try this website. Should also work for WIN98.

One thing to try is deleting the old .pwl files. A corrupt pwl can cause issues with MPREXE.

Take a look at the details next time you boot it and see if you can get some more information. There are a lot of issues related to the multi-protocol router (MPR) and narrowing it down may help us find an answer.

Additionally, as answer 1 said, there are trojans that can cause this error, so scanning with a boot disk with anti-virus would be a good step to take also.

Good luck..hope this helps!
