mpr.exe not responding?

After the w98se system is logged on, if you open the network neighborhood you can see all of the users along with the server. As soon as you click on a user icon or to explore the network it stops responding?
The 1st prog bot responding is: mpr.exe
Then after that is ended: Network Neighborhood is not responding
Then explorer stops responding.

Not to mention I just did a complete re-install of the system.
Any help would be great
