MS ACCESS 97 on Windows XP

By pfrench ·
Is MS ACCESS 97 compatible with Windows XP?
I uninstalled Office 2000, installed ACCESS 97, installed Office 2000 (except for ACCESS) to a different drive, rebooted several times but I still get the message "Microsoft Access can't start because there is no license for it on this machine."

Did you install 97 before Office 2000? If so did you go to custom install on 2000 and force it to keep 97? Unless you do this 2000 will delete previous versions.

Excellent suggestion by Ozi Eagle!

You can also try removing both version of Office... then a custom install of 2000 without access and after that do a custom install of 97 with just access.

You might find this link helpsful - it's the MS Knowledge Base ifo on the issue:;en-us;241141

uninstall access 97. Then do a search for hatten.ttf and rename the file to c:/windows/fonts/hatten.ttf) Reboot pc and install access 97 again.
