MS Access 97 - View Only Form to other A

MS Access 97 - View Only Form to other Access DB

We have a (MDB) database that contains names, ssn, signature (JPG) and photo(JPG). The app is an Access (MDE) form only that interfaces to the main MDB (which is a true Access DB).

Problem iswhen there are 3 users in it, it does not allow more users in. What may be causing this, where can I look? Max users is approx 10-15 an anytime. Only way to correct this is recreate a MDE file.

just a wild guess, this mskb article talks about maybe needing to either update to latest service pack or disable opportunistic locking on the server. you don't give enuf info about the db server so can't tell if this is barking up right tree...Q303519 good luck. there is always an answer...

file is not on a "Server" but a file server that is hosting the DB. What other info would you need?

Can't use MDE file .
File already in use click OK .

We do not have a database server just for this we are just click the shortcut to it and using it that way. Just a shared folder on a file server.

Have you tried changing the file attribute of the MDE file to read-only? You didn't specify the network access privilege settings, please check the number of simultaneous users allowed on that file. Also, you're saying 3 distinct users? As opposed to 3 instance of the same user logging in from 3 different workstations? I am not sure that Access 97 will allow more than 10 simultaneous users. (Not sure if that's per server or per seat license mode.) Hope this helps. :-)

As long as each user has his own licensed copy of Access 97 you can connect many users to one Access database. I have a number of Access based application operating, including some with 20-40 users. The only difference between the MDB and MDE files is that the MDE file does not include the source code for the VBA and therefore does not permit changing of VBA code and limits changes to forms, reports, etc.

Be sure that you don't have a user trying to open the application as exclusive ratherthan shared.

How are your users connected to the server? If they log in to the server, you might also inspect the rights as set up on the server. The server (NOT Access) may have some limited rights defined.
