ms caldera dos ver 7

i've got caldera dos ver 7 installed on my laptop's new hard drive. when i run fdisk to format the drive and create partitions it says defective cylinders. so i don't know how to format the drive and load win 98 se on the computer. or is the drivebad.

I would look at the spec's of the drive it seems to me that DOS could only use a 1 gig partition at the max so you would need an extension driver to see over that amount(DiskManager). Is there already a partition on the driver or are you trying to force a size on the startup partition. I beleive that SE has a 4 gig limit to the startup partition, I would look at make a Win 98 SE boot disk on another device and try to do a load through the MS setup and let 98 SE set the size of the partition.

Backup any data, etc on the drive.
Repartition and format using the Win98 boot floppy.
