MS File sharing Win 95 & Win2k

By dmcginniss ·
How do you use MS file sharing beteen the two operating systems. Can Win2K professional remote access win 95 machines as win95 machines can acces each other? When I try to access a shered folder in win2K I am asked for a password, no password was set under file sharing on the win2k machine.

You are being asked for a password beacuse Win95 is sending your currently used credintals to the Win2k box.

A quick fix is to create a local account on the Win2k box that matches the account you are using on the Win95 box.

ie..

Win95
U:User
P:passwd

Win2k
U:User
P:passwd

Make sure that the Win2k account has the correct permissions to access that resource. After that you should not be prompted for a login and if you are you can simply use the same account information.

Good Luck!

It worked, but I am on a Banyan Vines network and had to figure out that Dave McGinniss@title_ivd@njjud_unn was translated to Dave_McGinniss@title in W2k. The odd thing is that I am signed on to both machines with the same Banyan logon.
