M$’s Latest email Propaganda Assault

by adminsparky . Updated 25 years ago

Has anyone else been victimized by Microsoft’s latest email assault? The email I received had the subject: [Experience Windows. XP Before It’s Released to the Public]. The email contains embedded Javascript that automatically opens IE and connectsto http://www.ddi2.com/microsoft/1/1alt.asp?….. This in itself is not completely unheard of, but it gets better. This all happens without actually opening the email (I use Outlook 98 with the preview pane option). Again, not unheard of, but definitely unethical in my opinion. I saved the really annoying part for last. All of this song and dance routine leads to an advertisement that offers a preview of Windows XP via a Mail Kit for US$19.95 or Download for US$9.95. So correct me if I’m wrong, but Microsoft just sent me an advertisement that wants me to pay for another advertisement? Does anyone else see this as arrogant?

All of this would not have angered me so if not for the fact that just upon entering the folder with that email highlighted, I get a pop-up, I then delete it, and upon entering my deleted folder to empty it, I get another pop-up. I hope I’m not the only one sensitive to the fact that this can only be considered an assault.
