My customer had a hard drive crash. I installed the new hard drive, installed Win98SE, and installed MS Office 97. I then applied SR1 with no errors; I attempted to apply SR2b but get an error message that I cannot apply SR2 because of several possibilities, none of which are valid.
I have un-installed MS Office 97, and found the eraser97.exe file on MS’s TechWeb, and used it. It still leaves msoffice.ini and msoffice.– in the Windows folder. I removed them and the MS Office folder, restarted and went through the whole routine again with the same results.
This system had MS Office 97 w/SR2b before the hard drive crash and worked OK.
Any ideas? MS TechWeb doesn’t offer any help.
