If the files are damaged and this isnot letting you remove office,go to start-find-files or folders and then type in the files that are listed as error,go to windows explorer and locate the folders and reinstall. Now try to remove office thru the add/remove programs. You may end up reinstalling office and going back thru the remove process, but use add/remove programs

go to windows explorer and c:\programs and delete the microsoft office directory, sometimes you have to do the sub directories first. Then reinstall office. I have run across this problem with win95 not versions b or c, I also have found this problem with the base level office 97 professional, not sr1 or sr2. You also may need to run the office clean utility that microsoft offers as a free download. There were 2 occasions after i did the reinstall after deleting the directories that i had to uninstall through control panel (and run the office clean ute)then install fresh. Good luck

SYMPTOMS: When you run the Setup program for any of the versions of Microsoft Office
listed at the beginning of this article, the following error message may appear: Setup Error 797
CAUSE=====This problem may occur when you attempt to install Microsoft Office on a
computer that has a corrupted Microsoft Windows 95 swap file, Win386.swp. In
addition, this problem may occur when Win386.swp is too small.

WORKAROUND====Swap File---------
To work around the problem when you have a corrupted swap file, restart the
computer in MS-DOS mode, delete the Win386.swp file in the Windows folder, and
restart the computer.

To do this, follow these steps:
1. On the Start menu, click Shut Down.
2. In the Shut Down Windows dialog box, click "Restart The Computer In MS-DOS Mode," and then click Yes.
3. At the MS-DOS prompt, switch to the Windows folder by typing cd <drive>Windows
where <drive> is the letter of the drive for the hard disk in which the
Windows folder is located. Typically, this is drive C.
NOTE: The swap file exists in the Windows folder if Windows manages virtual
memory settings on yourcomputer. If you chose to manage virtual memory settings
on the computer, the swap file exists at the root level of the hard disk. To determine whether Windows manages virtual memory settings, right-click My Computer, click Properties, click Performance, and then click Virtual Memory.
4. To delete the swap file, type the following at the MS-DOS prompt: del Win386.swp
5. After deleting the swap file, restart your computer.
