MS OUTLOOK Mail

Win 98..
Sometimes when I log onto outlook mail the computer just shuts down and reboots for no reason.......... logs me back to my desktop and I have to relog in to outlook ..
Any reason why this happens?

try it in safe mode. if it works, hmmm. i guess I would try to see if disabling any programs that run at startup would help...see below for how.
do you have plenty of free, defragged hard disk space? any other programs giving problems? any error messages in outlook?
to disble Startup programs, Start/run/msconfig <enter> backup current configuration, then go to Startup tab and disable half the stuff there. test for the problem. If it doesn't occur, put back half the stuff you took out, retest and so on until you narrow down the bad boy...

Outlook has a built-in repair tool it may fix your problem.open outlook go to help then detect and repair.

Are you connecting to an Exchange server or just using outlook for internet mail? We'll assume internet mail only. Export your personal files to a .pst file. Then delete all content of the folders. Exit Outlook, reopen outlook several times to see if problem is fixed, if problem persists repair the outlook installation (office/outlook 2000) or reinstall outlook. Try the open/close repetition again. If ok then reimport your personal folders and rerun open/close test.
