MS Proxy server 2.0 Downloading Problems

By andy.rhea ·
Can not download a file from the Internet on any client machine that is connected through proxy server. It will pop up a logon screen that says Firewall at the top and it ask for username, password, and domain. The thing is it will not accept any username or password that I put in, and after 3 attemtps it will give a error message saying "Internet explore was unable to open this internet site, try again later. How can I get proxy to allow downloads for all my clients. By the way all clients are setup for full access.

MS Proxy server 2.0 Downloading Problems

Us winsock proxy instead of web proxy. set the connection type to automatic detect, that should solve the problem. if you have to use the web proxy (for monitoring or such) make sure that you have the permissions set correctly.

I have to run Web Proxy in conjuction with Proxy. Under permissions I have enable access control list checked and I have all of the users that need access in this list that was imported from my NT Domain. So my question is what do I need to look for under the permissions tab.

Okay, I have a couple of questions?
How are your users who are in your list on the (permissions tab) getting authenticated? Is it anonymous, basic, or wNT Chal / Resp.

Next, what messages are placed in the event log on the proxy server, and also at the PDC.

Is there an anonymous account listed in (i think it is) www settings if not there then it is in the web proxy settings?

When you say can't download anything? Can your users browse okay? Are we talking FTP downloading?

Onething I would check is to see if the anonymous account on the proxy server, has permissions to log on locally, to itself...sounds dumb, but that was one thing I had to fix.

Also, check to see if there is more than one gateway listed for the proxyserver. What can happen is that the server, can not determine before timing out, whether it sould be looking on the local intRAnet or on the external intERnet. What happens is it will just sit and wait...and wait and then time out, check that setting too.

Lets, see, what else...is the LAT table fully defined? Also when you mentioned the permissions for all of the users, you said you had full-control listed, was that specific to WWW only, or did you copy the same list to all the FTP, GOPHER, etc.

Let me know some more info...
