MS Proxy Server & Virus

By mossessi ·
I have a network of 30 users on Win 98SE and 2 NT servers one as a PDC and the second as a File server, I have installed MS Proxy Server 2.0 on the File server, and we donot have MS Exchange server. My question is, is it possible to filter out internet e-mails with an antivirus program or through a function of proxy server for viruses before the users get the email on their workstations. I would appreciate any comments.

Well, the new SystemWorks from Symantec allows for email scanning and protection. There is for pop3 email accounts locally on the clients PC.
You can also, look at Norton Ativirus Enterprise Solution 4.0 it does exactly what you looking for. www.symantec.com

Good luck!

We are currently using Norton Antivirus Enterprise Edition v4.0. It works very well. After Melissa, we didn't get any of those VB script viruses from attachment. Most notably the Love Virus and the Stages of Life something. The only thing is, it's best to run on a separate server. We dedicated a desktop, Compaq Deskpro EP P500. All NT Workstation clients receive an automatic update of their virus definition. In Win95/98, we predefined the day and time to automatically download virus definition from the server.

It should work for you, too. Enjoy!
