MS Query problem in XL97

When I use the Query Wizard in XL97, It gets to the step where I should be able to Choose Columns – I can see the Access database tables & queries, but when I click the “plus” sign next to each, I get no fields displaying. The plus turns to a minus sign, but no fields.

any idea what i’m doing wrong?
