MS-Word Neverending Document Problem

by nonesuch . Updated 24 years, 7 months ago

Using either Word 97 or Word 2000, on different systems, if I open up certain one or two page documents, they are slow to load and often lock the systems up completely. If I examine the status bar, it shows that Word is determining the number of pages, and the page counter runs continuously until the system runs out of resources and locks up. If pagination is disabled and I load the document, a similar result occurs if I use ‘Print Preview’ or try to print.

I’ve personally seen this with two different files on two differnt PC’s that otherwise function normally, so the problem appears to be document specific. In both cases, the document was only one page long, but the page count stated 389 on one and over 10,000 on the other. What inholy Hades is going on here? I’ve never seen anything like this.
