MS Word Picture Behind Text Problem

By winmorgan ·
I'm using Word 2000. When I put a picture behind text on my letterhead, it works fine UNTIL I decide to put page numbers in the document. Once I insert page numbers (say, on a 3 page report on my letterhead), the picture sits on TOP of the text regardless of what formatting I choose for the picture. When I check the objec/picture formatting, it has "Behind Text Checked," etc. ...it's all as it should be. But once page numbers are added it prints on top of the text, obliterating most of my letterhead.

I am refraining from saying anything about Mr. Gates in this posting, mind you.

Any help greatly appreciated.

When you insert your page numbers, try using a header or footer: in Word, select the View menu, and choose Header and Footer. You can insert your page numbers anywhere across the top or bottom of the page.

Since a header or footer is distinguished from the rest of the text, you may be able to avoid your current problem. Hope that is helpful.

I thought I'd rated this, but it looks like my comment and rating didn't take. I tried what you suggest, inserted page numbers as footers, via View > Header & Footer, etc. But, unfortunately, it dosen't work. It produces the same result--i.e., the picture "behind" my letterhead comes to the front and obliterates the letterhead. I'm open to any other suggestions. Thanks.

Try making your left and right margins smaller (less empty space on left and right of text). This will provide more space for the text and pictures.

You may be real close to filling up the available space, and the page numbers push you over the edge. By shrinking your margins, you are making more room for text and pictures.

Thanks for your suggestion, but it didn't help. The logo behind my address on the letterhead is quite small (maybe 1.25 inches square). Nonetheless, I lowered the page margins from 1.1 to .7 just to try your suggestion. Didn't work. Problem remains the same. Logo prints fine behind letterhead/masthead as long as no page numbers inserted. As soon as they're inserted, it comes to the front and blocks out most of the text.

Thanks for trying...I remain open to any further suggestions,

Win

Try saving your logo in a different file format, then insert it in the document. And try a fresh document.

Try Lotus WordPro?!?!?!

Adding a comment at TechRepublic's behest as they remind me the question is open: None of the suggestions work--tried them all, including the last about different file format. I remain very open to any further suggestions.

Thanks,

Win
