MS Word Save

By joesedor ·
MS works 2000 on windows 98Se. When I try to save a new word documnet in words native formate "word document" I get the following message which locks up MS word. " An unexpected error has occurred: I/O error 0" Any suggestions on how to fix this is appreciated. The rest of the programs in the suite work fine. I just can't save a word document. If I open previous word document which I saved prior to the time the problem surfaced, I can work on the document and save it but can't save a brand new document.

Try the usual clean up procedure. Search for and rename any files named Normal.dot there should be only one.
Search for ~*.* and clean out any of these temp documents. (Word can leave thenm behind wherever a document is opened).
Of, course look for viruses, but I think one one the above steps will fix it.

The Microsoft Office 2000 settings stored in the registry are damaged (corrupted). Read Technet article Q236872 for a step-by-step on how to fix this. It will tell you to delete some Office 2000 Registry settings. Not too difficult.

Hope this helps.

No luck. After removing all temp files and the normal.dot file, I still get the same message. The only thing different this time is that I am presented with a message box which allows me to view details. (No freeze up) The following message is winword caused an invalid page fault in module Kernel32.dll at o18f:bft87ede. I don't think that this is the real problem and suspect that that message could read different errors at any different time. All other programs are shut down, so nothing should be interfering with word.
