Msgsrv32 and PC hangs

By azizmogbil ·
Hello,

My PC stops responding (hangs). When I press CTRL+ALT+DELETE, MSGSRV32 is listed as Not Responding in the Close Program dialog box.
When I end the task my PC responds again.
What is the problem? Thanks

msgsrv32 is a program that operates behind the scenes and is necessary for Windows to operate. See MS Knowledge Base article Q138708 at http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/Q138/7/08.asp

For details on a possible cure for your problemsee MS Knowledge Base article Q169987 at http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/Q169/9/87.ASP

Hope this is of use.

Microsoft Article I Q169987
To work around this behavior, use the following steps:

Quit any running programs, and then test to determine if a specific program is causing this behavior. If you quit all running programs and the issue is resolved, one of the programs that was running is the cause of this behavior. If this does not resolve the issue, continue to step 2.

NOTE: This issue is often caused by screen saver programs.

Disable power management. To do so, click Start, point to Settings, click Control Panel, and then double-click Power.

In the Power Management box, click Off (or click the "Allow windows to manage power on this computer" check box to clear it).

Click OK.

Restart your computer.

If the behavior continues to occur, follow these additional steps:
In Control Panel, double-click System.

On the Device Manager tab, double-click the System Devices branch to expand it.

Double-click Advanced Power Management Support.

On the Settingstab, click the Enable Power Management Support check box to clear it, and then click OK.

Click OK.
Restart your computer when you are prompted to do so.

Hope this helps

Msgsrv32 and PC hangs

I recently went through this on a clients machine. Tried the MS knowledge base fixes, all of them and no cure.

I removed the network card and installed a new one and the problem appeared to be gone but it was still acting funny.

Reinstalling windows on top of itself cured the problem, obviously there were some corrupt system files and such.

I would try changing the network card for another one, prefereably a different model and brand if you can.
