MSHTML.DLL

By nosugartonight ·
I have a dell with windows ME,I had problem with home page changing, browser not working properly.I called dell and they told me to visit your site "tinyurl.com/5b3qh" and try your free scan.I did and the scan found several viruses. All were removed except one, coolwwwsearch. After restarting computer and getting to my desktop I receive an error "exploer has caused an error in MSHTML.DLL explorer will now close" I clicked the close button in this box but it comes right back.I can not open internet explorer or any other programs.I was able to close the error box and quickly open "spybot-search & destroy" and run the scan again.I then received a error "runtime error! program:C:\program files\symantec shared\CCAPP.EXE" Please help with this problem.Thank you.

To fix the .dll problem reinstall IE6. See more here: http://tinyurl.com/zem5q

To remove coolwebsearch see here: http://tinyurl.com/2hn6s

As far as the runtime error you might need to reinstall the program as well.

Can you boot into safe mode? Quickly access system restore? Try a parallel install of ME or get a copy the MSHTML.DLL from another ME computer and replace it to your machine. Make a backup of the current one first.

Some tips to help you in the future :

- NEVER ! NEVER use a internet Virus Scan, even Bitdefender one gives you virus (win32 Parite B) !

- Never trust windows that tell you to try the FREE ANTIVIRUS SCAN ! It's virus dispensers !

- Use a good antivirus, like Avast! ... a real free one and it use a tiny little space on your computer. The only problem -_-" i've ever had with it, one time it asked me to do something abour a virus, I clicked DELETE, and by doing this I lost my Windows Firewall. Watch Out !

Good luck for further IT adventures ^^
