MSI Distribution

By Leonard J Rivera Sr. ·
Using Veritas Dicover, how can I get an MSI to distribute over a network without giving a user local admin or domain admin rights?

I know the proceedure but it won't work unless the user has their rights adjusted. I don't want to give anyone any rights about standard user rights. There has got to be a way.

If you're installing to XP clients, you might be able to use the "run as" feature. I'm not familiar with Veritas Discover, but other products allow you to run a service on the local machines which runs with local admin rights, and that service controls the installation.

If I could figure out a way for the MSI to distribute with a "Run As" , that would certainly solve my issue.

Don't know about Veritas Discover, but assuming you have Active Directory, the MSI can be rolled out with "Elevated Privileges" using a Group Policy. Somewhere in the back of my mind is a utility. When it comesto mind, I'll post it.

Look up "epal" in Technet. It may do what you require.
Good luck.
