MSWord 97 on W2K Pro

By huixtepecano ·
I have a few W2K Pro boxes with Office 97.
When I login on any of these machines as regular user (on the local machine or NT4.0 domain), I'm unable to use spelling & grammar option in MSWord(it is gray out). If I log on as power user or admin I have this option enabled.
I need to have this option enable for my regular users without giving them super user privileges.
Note: These machines are part of a NT4.0 Domain.

Thanks, in advance

We had similar problems and solved them by giving the user local admin privs, reinstalling the software as that user, then knocking the privs down to normal.

Good luck

In my company we have a mixed bag of win2k pro and 95. The servers are win2k and nt4. I gave local admin priv to all users. Under the user applet in the control panel, advanced tab, the local users and groups. Maybe you should put the everyone or Domain users group in the POWER USERS group. This way they dont have admin rights but sufficient good enough to get the job done.
You should not have to re-install the apps.
P.s.... You'll find if the users are not admin that when you are troubleshooting, you'll be constantly logging them off so you can log in as to have full control of the pc. That is why I made my users local admin (no different than running 95 where all users have full control over their pc)
