Mt Computer not refreshing

By Blackcurrant ·

A user running Win98SE has suddenly been experiencing a problem with My Computer.

When a file is renamed or if files are copied to a folder, the view remains unchanged. The changes are not reflected as My Computer is not refreshing the display. Clicking view>refresh or pressing F5 will refresh the display.

This computer has been fine until this problem started. All video drivers are properly installed, and the OS is regularly updated.

Does anyone have any ideas how I may fix this?

The following is a regiistry change, before editing the registry make sure you export a copy of the currect registry.

Click START and type regedit, this will open the registry editor, select Registry>Export registry and save it to disk or a file in the hard drive. This way you can boot into safe mode and restor it if you make any mistakes.

Adjusting Explorer's Refresh Rate

In the right pane you will see a setting named UpdateMode, which controls
the Explorer refresh rate. To set this rate at its fastest, change the
value of UpdateMode to 0.

Post back if this doesn't do the trick, there are a few more issues that may cause this. This also happens sometimes if a CD is left in the drive.
