Multi-homed host causing problem

by kevharlow . Updated 21 years, 10 months ago

We have a Windows 2000 server configured as a multi-homed host i.e. multiple network cards with a unique private IP address.

In our example we have multiple cards on Server1, each with a unique private ip address. The private ip addresses are then mapped to a public address on the Firewall which uses Network Address Translation to hit the relevant network card on Server1.

The problem is as we have multiple cards all sat on our internal network other servers think there is more than one pc with the name Server1!

This is causing error “multiple network names” problem on our existing network.

Any ideas on how to overcome this?

Thanks.
