Multi-Platform Ghost image???

I need to create an Image that can work on Laptops as well as desktops. I’ve heard that there is a way to create and Image that can be installed on computers with different HALs, but I can’t find much information on the web about this. I plan on using norton ghost to create the image, but if there is something else that would work better I’m open to suggestions. I would really like to find a nice document on how to go about this, but any information that can be provided will be greatly appreaciated.
