Multimedia Connect & Phone Dialer

By gemailhiot ·
Here's the situation:
Toshiba 460CDT Notebook
32 MB RAM
Toshiba Internal V/F/D 33.6 modem
Windows 95B
Multimedia Connect from Syncro Development Corp. version 1.8

Problem:
The Windows 95 Phone Dialer applet and the Multimedia Connect program do not work.

The Phone Dialer, when asked to dial a number. returns the following message:
"Windows Telephony was unable to complete an operation requested by Phone Dialer. Quit and restart Phone dialer"

I have tried uninstalling and re-installing Phone dialer - same results.

The Mulitmedia Connect program returns the following message, when loading:
"Audio and Telephony capabilities could not be loaded. Would you like to continue without audio and telephony capabilities?"

I can't seem to get this program to work. I have tried reloading it - same results.

The modem has been tested successfully through Dial-Up Networking, Microsoft FAX, Hyperterminal.

The sound system is working fine also.

Any suggestion or solutions?

Thanks

Gille

I did not notice anything mentioned about the configurations of either program, but have you check to make sure each application is configured to use the modem. Usually if nothing is specified you will receive that error.
In Phone Dialer: Open phone dialer.
Click on tools.
Click on connect using....
Make sure the modem is
selected.
I am not familiar with the other application, but I would check its configurations also.Good Luck!

It sounds that your program is modem specific and may not work with all types of modem or drivers. Borrow another modem and try that out!

Or:
You have selected an incorrect telephony device within the installation. Ensure you have verify from the setup program that you have selected the correct modem.
You can do this by:
Click on the 'Yes' button when you see the error message. A second error message will appear, click on the 'OK' button.

To verify the modem selection follow these steps:

1. Click on the Setup button on your Connect phone.
2. The modem name is displayed in the field 'Telephony device:' within the 'Hardware devices' section. Verify it is the correct modem. On some systems you need to select the tab 'Local Settings' to see the modem name.
3. If you need to change the modem selection, click on the small arrow beside the modem name to see additional choices. Select the modem name, then click on the 'OK' button.
4. Exit Connect and then open it.

Goodluck

I have never heard of the other program but Microsoft has a update for dial up networking to version 2.1 it might also include telephony updates as well (think they operate off the same drivers)

You need to run the mdmsetup (You should be able to do a search for this file) and run it to enable or disable the controllerless drivers for the modem. It is necessary to enable this for telephony programs (like a answering machine or speaker phone) to work

If needed you can get the modem543.exe file from Toshiba's web site to do this.

Good luck to you

The user tried this solution, but could not download the stated EXE. He contacted Toshiba, and the problem was resolved within 10 minutes. It involved reloading the modem driver - something that the user claims had been tried before.

This answeris the closest to the problem.
