Multiple Connections to server

By miguel ·
First, we have no virus on any PC, but i randomly see users logged from multiple workstations, thought they are logged only in a single workstation. These connections pose a network problem for "real" clients trying to access server resources. Anyidea why this is happening?

Multiple Connections to server

When you say you "see" users logged on from mutiple workstations, what tool or utility are you using to "see" this?

It would be next to impossible to troubleshoot this one without knowing more about your network (NT or 2k/AD) how many workstations, how many servers, and what exactly you're seeing that has you worried. Also, how do you connect to the Internet and are you running a firewall?

Understand that Win2k (like all MS OS's) is very "talkative". There's alot of network traffic going on that you may see (ARP requests, WINS/DNS lookups, etc) that may appear to be questionable traffic.

You might want to fire up the Network Monitor (or some other sniffer like Ethereal) to examine the traffic.

There is one w2k server with AD, and 25 wrkstats normally when the workstations try to connect they log on one user but open multiple files for admin purposes; but the unusual here is that the same user is logged on five times from five different work seats!.
