Multiple Drive Mapping

By dennis ·
I have a couple Windows NT 4.0 WS SP4 Based Machines that automatically map all of the remaining drive letters to various UNC on my network. HAs anyone seen/fixed this?

Have you got FastFind in your startup menu? This is generally the cause. Take FastFind out of your startup menu and see if the excessive mapping stops.

This is a findfast problem that was supposed to have been fixed by SP3 or later. However, I have still seen it happen even with the latest SP installed. While proposed answer one is correct in that you should delete the FindFast shortcut in your startup menu, that alone may still not solve the problem. You should also do the following:
1. Open FindFast in control panel
2. Select any entry in "Index for documents in and below".
3. Click "Index" on the toolbar and then "Delete Index"
4. Repeat steps 2-4 until all entries have been deleted.
5. Click "Index" and then "Close and Stop."

This should permanently solve your problem.
