multiple explorer windows opening

By anamenow ·
Hi,
Multiple windows explorer windows open upon startup. I have checked the startup folders and removed all the items there (none of which are windows explorer). I have been in msconfig and removed all but the necessary startup programs (again - none of which are windows explorer). Any suggestions? I am using windows 98 SE and about 15 or so windows come up, Thanks

Sounds like some sort of script. What kind of windows are opening? What are the contents of the windows? You should run a full system virus scan and see if you have any viruses. I bet you do.

Hope this helps.

ive never seen this happen before what is in the windows/or on the top bar it will give an address either net or drive location. it sounds like a biuld up of what i would tecnicaly call "crap" the best way to get rid of this "crap" is to try
a: goto your internet propertys and clear you internet cache + history folders + offline content.
or b: go to c:windows\temp internet files and delete the whole lot of what you find in there (internet crud biuld up again)
or c: unfortuneately this willtake the longest but is a longer process, make sure you have all your operateing system, drivers, software and important data backed up (on cdr maybe) and reinstall your computer, be verry sure you know what to do and your not going to lose anythingimportant! then you computer will be nice and clean for use again! (if you want to know how to reinstall ask me) hope you dont have to resort to c:! hope it helps

It's the site you are browsing in the default starup page of the iexplorer.
The site auto-launches many iexplorer windows, sometimes the cpu may hog!. Do you experience any porn site? It's came a moment that you may have up to 10 or more windows opened.
In order to minimize this, with the explorer closed, left click, properties, startup page, choose BLANK. Start explorer and see what happens...
If in the next boot the start page seems to ber changed, it's not a virus, it's a key in the registry! Search the registry for the first letters of the site and clean every key that may pointed to that site.
How to prevent it from being changed again?
1.- Don?t browse that site (like www.muzikum.com)
2.- Start your windows NT account with a user like profile rather than a power user or administrator account. (Users can't modify the registry!")
