Question

Locked

Multiple FTPsites

By russellrl2 ·
I have a main ftpsite that is public in nature. Some individuals want a private ftpsite for moving sensitve data. I have read where you can setup multiple ftpsites using different port numbers. I established 2 additional ftpsites and gave them port numbers of 5033 and 5036. But when I ftp to them (ftp:\****.******.***:5036) it gives me the login and password window but does not accept it. Using a ftp programs does the same (530 error). It is important the folder cannot be accessed by the public ftp users.

Secure FTP Sites

by mjfera In reply to Multiple FTPsites

I'm doing this off-the-cuff since I'm not in front of my servers, but here are the basics of what I have done this in the past with good results.

A single FTP site is sufficient.

The home directory of your FTP site would point to c:\inetpub\ftproot. Under ftproot you create folders that correspond to local users of the host server (the user accounts must be local, and not on a domain).

FTP automatically directs logged on users to a first-level folder that matches the user id. For example:

ftp://user1:passwd@ftp.mysite.com would be automatically directed into c:\inetpub\ftproot\user1 on the host server.

From there, just use basic NTFS permissions to lock down the folders.

Hope this helps.
