MS Exchange Server V4 had been giving error messages for a long time
I have been use outlook 97 for my business e mail without any problems all along.
I wanted to have the ability to have a 3 way chat with instant messenger and a white board feature.
to get this I need to upgrade to IE 5. or higher so I download IE5.5
I thought that MS had stopped the practice of forcing users of ie 5.5
from losing their pop3 accessibility. Wow had found a fix so I felt somewhat protected.
I downloadedie 5.5 to an unattended machine. When I returned
I had a blue screen of death. I rebooted NTv4 sp4. After
logging on – ie 5.5 proceed to install automatically
with these files receiving the following error message
“the file may not have been installed or it has been corrupted.” c \program files \ outlook express \ oemiglib.dll c:\program files \ common \ system \ directdb.dll c:\winnt\system32 \ onetcomm.dll
c:\winnt\mise.dll c:\winnt\oeimport.dll
Install finished – I could dial out to my isp and log the internet
However outlook could not load because of a missing mapi32.dll
I reinstalled mapi32.dll and outlook boots and works, however I cannot call for the (F5) mail from outlook
I get the following message.
The POP3 server name you specified cannot be found.
Please check the name and try again
pop.onemain.com
when I go into outlook / tools / services / Internet email / property / servers
everything looked ok except
When I exit this screen : error msg.
The specified SMTP server does not appear to be a valid server name, do you want to use it anyway?
When I click on the Inbox icon I get
The specified POP3 server does not appear to be a valid server name, do you want to use it anyway?
when I dbl. click on the inbox icon I get
an application error has occurred
and an application error is being generated
