Multiple VLANs and DHCP client requests issue!!!

By jskerlick ·
I have a ProCurve 3500yl switch that has 3 VLANs on it. I have enbled routing between the VLANs. The DHCP server is on the Data VLAN and has an IP address of 192.168.200.50. I have setup an IP helper-address on the other VLANS to point to the DHCP server. The problem is clients on the Default and VOICE VLANs are not able to get an IP address from the DHCP server. Can someone please show me where I'm going wrong?

VLAN 1 = Default (10.0.0.0/24)
VLAN 10 = Data (192.168.0.0/16)
VLAN 20 = VOICE (10.20.30.0/24)

Request for Clarification

by RickCogley In reply to Clarifications

Hello - this is close to what I am doing and I just want to know what server you have connected to what port? If possible I would like to corroborate my own understanding of what needs to be tagged vs untagged.

Regards,
Rick

Multiple VLANs and DHCP client requests issue!!!

by jskerlick In reply to UDP

Thanks for the help, I figured it out. By default the switch does not forward UDP broadcasts between VLANs. I enabled UDP broadcasts (ip udp-bcast-forward) and then clients, on different VLANs, where able to receive.

The ProCurve3500yl is a layer 3 switch.

Multiple VLANs and DHCP client requests issue!!!

by vamsi_1211 In reply to Multiple VLANs and DHCP c ...

Hai sir,
I saw u r configurations with the same config i simulated the same setup at my office ,its working fine clients are getting ip addresses.I have few queries from u r network setup and config.

1)Is dhcp server is placed vlan 10 ?

2)The folowing routes are for what purpose u r using.
primary-vlan 20
ip route 10.0.0.0 255.255.255.0 10.0.0.1
ip route 10.20.30.0 255.255.255.0 10.20.30.1
ip route 192.168.0.0 255.255.0.0 192.168.200.1
3)Regarding connectivity diagram

--------------------------------------------

solution:
1)if dhcp server placed in vlan 10 the dhcp server ip:192.168.200.50/16 and gateway is 192.168.200.1 should be connected in untagged port of vlan 10 only
2)above mentioned static routes are not required for getting ip addresses to clients(default and voice users).

iam sending the switch config once go thru it....

ip routing
snmp-server community "public" Unrestricted
vlan 1
name "DEFAULT_VLAN"
untagged 2
ip helper-address 192.168.200.50
ip address 10.0.0.1 255.255.255.0

no untagged 3-24
exit
vlan 10
name "DATA"
untagged 1,3-22,24
ip address 192.168.200.1 255.255.0.0
tagged 2,23
exit
vlan 20
name "VOIP"
untagged 23
ip helper-address 192.168.200.50
ip address 10.20.30.1 255.255.255.0
tagged 2-22
voice
exit.

Once check this config if any query mail to me.
