Multiple Web Sites on IIS 4

By gavin ·
I have created a new web site on my IIS 4 server, using a "host header" to differentialte it from my default web site. THe problem is that I can't force it to be a "frontpage" web. The server extentions won't install for it.
Are there issues with using FrontPage on muiltiple web sites in IIS 4.0?

You need to have a separate IP address for each web AND make sure each IIS web is set up to answer for only it's one site (each IIS web must be assigned its own IP address and not have the "all unassigned...") Alternatively if you are creating a subweb from the primary site (www.myserver.com/subweb) then either create the web using Frontpage or set the Frontpage web checkbox in IIS for the vitual directory you are using.

Hello,

You could make the differentiation, using DNS Server ? you may set up several records - at instance CNAME pointing to the name at your server ? the combination of header+DNS record works fine.

sorry, not sure why you cant install FP ext but your setup does work, you can have as many sites as you want all using the same IP, using HTTP1.1 host headers.
