Multiple Windows on Windows Me Startup

By MadMup ·
I have a system that, when it boots, opens 3 Explorer windows to the desktop - 1 for each hard drive in the system. Nothing in the StartUp folder or the StartUp group under msconfig indicates that this should be happening.

I have done a clean install of WinMe twice now, and the problem has re-occurred (after a while). All Windows Updates have been applied.

Programs installed:
IE 6
Norton Antivirus, Utilities, and Firewall
Microsoft Office 97
Microsoft Money 2001

I appreciate any help you can give.

Multiple Windows on Windows Me Startup

Not sure about Win ME but I get same/similar in Win NT due to having used a window open on a drive other than C: and shutting down. Next time I boot, I get C + whatever drive I left last time. Closing the non-C: windows before shutting down usually resolves.

This is a 'feature' of MS Win (they always know best, you know).

I am still teaching myself to put the Win Explorer back on C: when I am done looking at something to stop this, but don't alwary remember. May be a config setting to stop this but beyond my knowledge.

I'm sorry - I should have mentioned that I make sure not to have any windows open when I shut down. Thanks for trying, though!
