multispeed CD-R not for 16X CD writer?

By rocky ho ·
I am not sure whether it is the problem of software or not that my 16X CD-RW drive cannot use multispeed CD-R (max 40X). Because most media available is 40X in the market.
It's Nero burn 5. I can only use those CD-R with max-speed labelled as 24X.

Is your problem the speed?
Or the 700MB versus 650MB disk size?

Start by checking with the drive manufacture for a "firmware" update for the drive.

Next, compare the color of the disks that work with the disks that don't.

Some drives are sensitive to disks of certain colors. The color of the recorded side indicates the dye and process used to create the disk.

Beyond that, I have no ideas at this time.
My HP and no name 4X and 12X drives are working fine with 40X and faster rated 700MB blanks.
Running Nero 5, Roxio 4 and Roxio 5.

One other additional factor is aparently thickness. I can not personally vouch for this, but supposedly memorex, for example, uses a slightly thicker disk which will not work in all cd burners.
