Municipal WiMax and the USA

Do you think it is dead in the US? It seems like the only thing close to it is if you are lucky enough to live near the Googleplex in California. It is alive and well in Asia I heard. Just the other day, my friend in Taiwan was marveling at the convenience of the city wide WiFi there.
